Actually, VPN encapsulation and IP fragmentation is at the root of my need to change the MSS. The customer I am communicating with is running Solaris 8 and the Solaris host on the other side of the tunnel, but the Solaris side is still advertising the standard MSS (1460) regardless of what the -mtu is set to.

Sounds like Fragment size on the interface, seen a similar issue and had to change the "ip tcp adjust-mss" value to 1300. MTU was set to1400.
